Alice Machado da Silva graduated from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG-Brazil) in 2001 with a Biological Sciences major. She holds both an MSc and a PhD in Biochemistry and Immunology from the same university and has a post-doctorate in Molecular Biology from the Institut de Pharmacologie et de Biologie Structurale (France). Following her post-doctorate, Alice decided to persue a career in Intellectual Property. She worked at the Technology Transfer Office at UFMG in 2009, evaluating patentability and drafting patents in the biotechnology field. She subsequently began specializing in IP, and in 2010 was appointed via national selection as a professor of Intellectual Property, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Universidade Federal da Bahia (Brazil). She then obtained an LL.M. in Intellectual Property from the University of Turin (Italy), having received a Diploma-cum-laude. She was recently awarded an internship at WIPO, funded by the University of Turin (Italy), for her performance in the LL.M. IP programme.
